Road Racing SPECIAL Stiffer shock &"Jack-Down" valvings (-10 suffix damping range)
 
Special STIFFER shock No. 5261-10:       These charts represent some typical damping curves as used, in this case, on the RF of an Asphalt LM car (or typical of  some used on Road-Race cars) when used with very soft front springs so the front end “jacks down” onto the bumpers for dramatically altered/enhanced aerodynamics and down-force characteristics.
This application requires special “settings” to give very stiff rebound & compression . Note: The damping of a special “-10” suffix MagneShock are about 2-1/2 times those displayed on the Programmer for a “regular -20” shock.
In some cases you will find bumps on the track in the corners.    When this occurs, a shock with this much rebound has a tendency to make the car JUMP OVER about 1 or 2 lanes. The bump causes the wheel can go up farther & faster and will require the shock to extend very quickly if the tire is to follow the track and maintain traction.  In fact, the shock cannot possibly rebound fast enough against so much resistance (damping), so the wheel “leaves the ground," loses traction and the car skips over.
MagneShocks have some UNIQUE Force-Velocity capabilities:         They can be adjusted so the damping force is REDUCED at higher velocities - so it CAN rebound faster  & possibly reduce or eliminate this skipping.
The following are tested up to 8 in/s, instead of the normal 6 in/s, because the damping from the 7 in/s setting may not “normalize” till 8 in/s (due to electro-magnetic hysteresis).
This 1st PVP chart shows the damping at peak velocities of  ½-1-2-3-4-6-8 in/sec:                                                                                                                                           Velocity:        0         ½          1          3          7

3.        Rebound starts to REDUCE @1 in/s, has dropped 80% @3 in/s & stays low at all higher speeds.  Rebound @3 in/s also reduced from 240/26 to 26/26…….. (GREEN #874):    65/16 180/16 190/17  26/26 320/36

This 2nd CVP chart is the same tests but shows damping as it accelerates up to & back from 8 in/s and hysteresis:
(You can see a small “spike” in damping when it starts Compression.  The 4th chart shows that is is actually a very short time - a few extra lbs. for about 1/40th of a second - not enough to have any meaningful effect.)

This 3rd CVP chart is run @6 in/s.
        It shows that the 2nd test’s damping (#861, where the 7 in/s setting was reduced) did NOT quite have enough time to get down to to
        its “mormal/desired” level .  The previous chart show that it did get there by the time it hit 8 in/s.

This 4th chart CVP graph shows the same shocks in a TIME-FORCE relationship (each vertical division is about 0.025 sec).
You can see that the damping force of #395 (ORANGE) drops off for about 250 milliseconds (1/4 second) - only while the shock it moving between 3 & 8 in/sec.
The damping of #396 (GREEN) drops off much sooner and stays low for about 335 milliseconds (1/3 second) - only while moving between 1 & 8 in/sec.
You may have noticed a slight “spike” in the compression damping (above) when it first starts.  This chart shows that it only lasts for 0.025 sec (1/40th of a second).

This 5td chart is, perhaps, only  a “demonstration” of the capabilities of MagneShocks.
We have taken the original shocks (#394 BLUE) and modified it (#397 VIOLET)
      so the damping force REDUCES (starting @1 in/s) to a low around 3 in/s                                                          Velocity:       0         ½          1          3          7               
      and then INCREASES again - all the way back up @8 in/s.                                                                   (VIOLET #397):   60/16 180/16 190/17  26/26 320/36      
              (at this time we have NO IDEA how you could use this unusual Force-Velocity curve - BUT, it sure is “interesting”!)

This 7th CVP chart is all 4 variations at 8 in/s velocities, which shows ACTUAL damping at all intermediate velocities & hysteresis.
(#861 BLUE) is Regular valving.
(#863 ORANGE) has Rebound set to start dropping off in damping from 3 in/s down to a low at 7 in/s.
(#874 GREEN) has Rebound set to start dropping off from 1 in/s down to 3 in/s and stay low from there on.
(#873 VIOLET) has Rebound set to drop off from 1 in/s daon to 3 in/s and then GO BACK UP from 3 in/s to 7 in/s & stay high from there on

This 8th PVP chart shows how some “Std” & “SPLIT-valve” SETTINGS react on a STIFFER (-010 suffix) MagneShock.  (Special “-10” Shock: set to L=l00/90)

This 9th CVP chart shows all the data at 6 in/s velocity.
NOTE: The #9/5 valving (BLUE), which has the most Rebound damping, has a bit more compression than the others.
     (this is consistent with other  tests - if the Rebound is increased, the same Compression settings usually give a bit more damping).
The #5 (ORANGE), #3/5 (GREEN) & #1/5 (VIOLET) variations show similar results - Compression gets slightly lower as the Rebound settings are lowered.

This 10th CVP chart shows test #877 ONLY - @6 & 8 in/s.
This shock has 140 psi & 33 lb of Rod-Pressure (at CENTER of stroke).   So, 140 psi X 2.79 sq. in. (area of piston) = 390 lb MAXIMUM compression damping before DUMPING occurs!
Gas pressure goes up a bit as the shock compresses (& the gas temperature also rises while being compressed quickly) so the REAL LIMIT is a bit more..
NOTICE that test #876 goes slightly ABOVE the limit at 6 in/s & far above at 8 in/s .
You can SEE that there IS some DUMPING at 6 in/s (BLUE) & LOTS of DUMPING @ 8 in/s(RED).   (the compression curve “BALLOONS-OUT”  when it dumps).
